Finally, some clarity.

At Campbell Health we understand that the mental health system can be confusing and overwhelming. We may have gotten different answers, opinions in terms of our symptoms, diagnoses, treatment plans for ourselves and our children. Our comprehensive assessments address this directly – going in-depth to accurately assess, diagnose (if appropriate) and give you and your family clarity regarding your mental health.

Finally, some direction.

Our psychologists are specifically trained to provide evidence-based direction and recommendations to help you improve your mental health and reach your goals. We know that assessment without a plan and direction does not help you now, or tomorrow.

Professional, Ethical and Responsible.

Our assessments are comprehensive, and they may ask a lot of you as a patient or a caregiver. Our team upholds the strict ethical guidelines to ensure you feel safe, respected and fully informed of the process from start to finish.

FAQ

A comprehensive psychological assessment is an in-depth approach to identifying root causes of problematic neuropsychological functioning, emotions, thoughts, perspectives, learning, understanding, interpersonal interactions/attachment, actions and reactions completed by a Licensed Psychologist. We evaluate for root causes and possible diagnoses. Of our team of psychologists, Dr. Collette and Dr. McLaughlin complete comprehensive evaluations.

  • The actual evaluation where you (or your child) needs to be present takes about 6-10 hours total. Information is gathered and neurological and psychological testing you complete in this time is then scored, interpreted and results written up in a document. A differential diagnoses process takes place where all possible disorders in our psychologist’s scope of practice are considered. Diagnoses are made based on the information provided, testing results and criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual-5.
  • Dr. McLaughlin gathers developmental history from caregivers beforehand. This process can take 90 to 120 minutes (between 1.5 and 2 hours).
  • Dr. Tessa Collette assesses patients who are 9 years of age and over, including adults.
  • Dr. Mclaughlin assesses patients who are 6-15 years, most often assessing 6-10 year olds.

You may consider a comprehensive assessment for yourself if:

  • You have difficulty to meet demands in daily functioning, academic achievement, relationship dynamics, professionally or meeting life goals;
  • You have undergone therapy with little success;
  • You wish to take proactive measures to assist you with your mental health by getting a  diagnosis and treatment recommendations in one of the following areas: neurodevelopmental (ASD, ADHD, SLD), depression, bipolar, anxiety related, psychosis related, addictions, conduct/oppositional or antisocial behaviors, attachment/trauma/stress and coping, relationships, legal or forensic issues, personality disorders and general well-being.

Wondering if a psychoeducational assessment is appropriate for your child? Here are some key indicators to consider:

  • If your child is struggling to meet academic standards even after receiving personalized support, such as one-on-one assistance from a resource teacher.
  • If your child is facing significant challenges when it comes to following basic instructions, managing daily life demands, and if these difficulties are affecting their performance at home, school, or in their interactions with friends.
  • If your child encounters obstacles in making and maintaining friendships, dealing with conflicts, and effectively communicating and connecting with others.
  • If your child is displaying signs of inattention and impulsivity that go beyond what is typically expected for their developmental stage, despite maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

No, comprehensive evaluations can only be completed by Licenced Psychologists who have specific training and experience in psychological assessment and diagnosis.
